To Baby or Not To Baby

The following is an interesting video that links to an interesting article: For Better or Worse? The Case for Gay (and Straight) Marriage. The article discusses the desperate homophobic argument that marriage is all about baby-making.

I repeatedly observe that, unless one could make a good case that equal rights are intrinsically a bad thing, there are absolutely no good arguments against legalizing gay marriage.

Because homophobes are aware that discrimination is frowned upon, they concoct a nauseating array of bad arguments to support their prejudiced viewpoint. Argumentum ad Reproductio (coined in deliberately bad Latin) is one of these.

Biblical scriptures provide the worst possible apology for homophobia. Unless bigots can prove (to use their favourite challenge) that there is a deity and that this deity purposely inspired the horrendously errant heap of bigotry that is called the Bible, they are making an unsupportable argument in quoting Bronze Age bigots.

The Fujita Scale of Anti-Bigotry

The um, er, um individuals at National Organization For Against Gay Marriage who commissioned the Gathering Storm mis-infomercial had not reckoned on YouTube. Tubers went viral with NOM's deceptive ad, with the audiotioning of actors for the ad (now removed), with revelations (pun) of the truth behind their misinformation, and with critiques and parodies.

Needless to say, bigoted trolls have been frantically doing the rounds, spewing out their childish vitriol. So far, the gay-positive commenters are winning on education, logic, reasonableness, spelling, grammar, etc.

Some of the video responses and parodies are hilarious. The first video is from a straight atheist with a social conscience and a colourful mouth.

As to this one, where is Helen Hunt when one needs her?

This one is serious. I recognize some of these actors, who are playing themselves.

In its infinite stupidity, NOM hired Carrie "No Offense Intended" Prejean as spokesperson. The latest rumour is that she is to be stripped of her crown for failing to disclose that she had "disclosed" some skin. I cannot imagine why all the fuss over a lateral view of augmented breasts, but rules are rules and I guess that they expect their beauty contestants to be selectively honest. If she wished to become a porn queen after her reign as runner-up, that would not matter, but she may get her hand slapped for less than one sees at a beach. Ah, America!

Just to put this issue in historical perspective:

Offense taken

"A response to the National Organization of Marriage's "No Offense" ad featuring Miss California Carrie Prejean; the second in their Religious Liberty Ad Campaign.

Join us in our fight for equality by recording your own 30 second video, ending it with the words "Offense Taken" and post it as a video response to this video.

Together we can make a difference."

Religious Liberty? Pah! It should be called the Power to Bigots Ad Campaign.

Proposition Anti-Hate - elimation of bigots

This posting is belated, but it's still a good video.

Bigots seem oblivious to the fact that homosexuality is no more about sex than is heterosexuality. In fact, same sex marriage is probably more about love than is straight marriage.

NOM Lies in Gathering Storm

According to this video, the claims made in the NOM video misrepresent actual stories. This is a typical tactic of the Religious Wrong [sic]. Like creationists, they invent, distort, and misquote as part of their illogical appeals to emotion.
